Even teachers like to be silly
Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. VanderPloeg like to have fun just like their students do!
Mrs. VanderPloeg loves to go outside to the playground with her students and her own two boys. She thinks it is fun to play on all of the equipment too just like all of the kids that she loves! This is a picture of Mrs. VanderPloeg and her son going down a slide together at a park in Traverse City!
A Fun Day at Post Family Farm!

The Hudsonville ECSE classes traveled to Post Family Farm on Thursday, October 15, 2009. The children and parents had the opportunity to see, pet and even kiss (see above picture) some of the farm animals. The children loved climbing and playing in the hay with their classmates. The hay ride to the pumpkin patch was a bumpy ride but a highlight of the trip! Each child and parent was able to choose a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch and the children enjoyed searching for that “perfect pumpkin.” And of course we can’t forget the famous Post Family Farm donuts! They are warm and melt in your mouth! A great treat for a chilly Fall day! A BIG thank you to the moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas and friends that were able to come along on the trip!
What’s Your Hobby?
As part of the October Scavenger Hunt, Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. VanderPloeg want to share their favorite hobbies.
One of Mrs. VanderPloeg’s favorite things to do is spend time with her two boys and her husband, Mr. VanderPloeg. As a family, they enjoy going to the beach to splash in the waves and build big castles in the sand. They also love to walk on the pier to watch the big boats go by and soak up the sunshine!
Mrs. Murphy enjoys curling up with a good book and a warm cup of coffee! She enjoys reading many different types of books and Karen Kingsbury is one of her favorite authors!
Post Family Farm Field Trip Reminder
Please remember that we will be going on a field trip to Post Family Farm on Thursday, October 15th in place of regular class. We will be leaving school at 10:45 and will arrive back to school at approximately 12:45. The cost for this trip is $5.00 per child and $4.50 for adults who wish to join us. Please note that transportation to and from school for your child is not provided by our school buses. You must drop off and pick your child up.
Soggy fun at DeGraaf Nature Center
On Friday, October 9th our ECSE classes spent the morning at DeGraaf Nature Center in Holland. We had a great time learning about, looking at, and even touching some animals that we can find in nature. Some of the animals that we learned about were owls, skunks and foxes. Many of our friends also chose to feel a bunny, a turtle, a snake and even a cockroach! We really thought it was cool to watch a frog and a tiger salamander eat their lunches! After learning about these animals we ended our trip to the Nature Center with a hike even though it was raining outside. It was a great time!

Smile!!! Picture day is coming!

Mrs. Van’s and Mrs. Murphy’s Summer Vacation
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. Mrs. VanderPloeg and Mrs. Murphy hope that all of the ECSE families had a wonderful summer and that everyone had a chance to “get away” on a vacation.
Over the summer Mrs. VanderPloeg spent a weekend in Flint, Michi
gan. While she was there, she had a great time riding on “Thomas the Tank Engine” with her husband and two boys! After riding on “Thomas the Tank Engine” Mrs. VanderPloeg was also able to meet Sir Topham Hatt, the superintendent of the railroad, and Bob the Builder. Mrs. VanderPloeg and her family had a great time!
This summer Mrs. Murphy spent time in Ludington, Michigan with her husband and three children! While she was there, she and her family walked the beach and the pier. Mrs. Murphy’s children had fun climbing the dunes and running and tumbling down! The weather was great and the scenery was breathtaking!
Field Trip to the Grocery Store

Our ECSE classes had the chance to go to the grocery store today, February 23rd. We have been learning about community helpers and today we learned about all of the important jobs that need to be done at a grocery store. We were able to see what happens in the bakery, the freezer, the back room, and the deli/meat department. Our students were also lucky enough to get some special treats to take back to school with us. Everyone had a great time today!
Learning About Teeth at the Children’s Museum
Our ECSE classes took a field trip to the Grand Rapid’s Children’s Museum on Friday, February 13th. While we were exploring all of the fun things at the museum, we also were able to participate in many special activities that focused on learning about teeth and dental hygiene. It was a great time for our students and their parents. Please watch the upcoming Appleseed for a special article that features our class and this special trip that we took!!!
